VANDEN PLAS Slam German Promoter Over Show Cancellation

November 1, 2002

German progresive metallers VANDEN PLAS have issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of a show in Leipzig, Germany on Oct. 19:

"On the afternoon of Friday the 18th the organizer of the 1st Prog Rock Night in Leipzig ('Anker') informed us that the festival had been cancelled due to economic reasons. On Saturday morning we published this information on our website. Two days later we heard that:

1) the concert took place (all of the other bands played),
2) the organizer did not communicate the fact that VANDEN PLAS would not play, neither on his website nor when fans called his office on Saturday,
3) on the evening of the show the organizer did not announce the reason for VANDEN PLAS not playing. Rumors about a VANDEN PLAS band member being ill showed up but this is not true at all.

"The truth is that we were looking forward to taking part in the festival and absolutely wanted to play in Leipzig. The organizer did not only lie and trick us but also the fans. He used our name for promoting the festival and finally cancelled our show at the last moment without considering the negative consequences, not only for us but also for the many fans, some of which took a 900+ km trip just to see us. He did not communicate our show cancellation until the start of the festival so he could be sure that most of the fans would visit the show. This is not tolerable, it is also the first time we experienced something like this. We feel sorry for the fans who travelled to the show."
